Patton Oswalt is headed for Fox.
The busy actor has booked the male lead in the network’s untitled comedy pilot from Laura Steinel, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The single-camera comedy (known as HR) centers around Jane (Judy Greer), who is caught between trying to manage her charmingly incompetent human resources department and a new eccentric CEO (Oswalt) who dreams of bringing the New Jersey plastics plant into the future.
Oswalt will take on the role of Sam, the CEO, who lives life at a higher octave than everyone else. Sam is an “ideas” guy — however, none of them are suitable for this small-town New Jersey plastics plant.
Repped by UTA, Generate and attorney Lev Ginsburg, Oswalt’s credits include ABC’s Agents of SHIELD, HBO’s Veep, FX’s Justified and his weekly role as the narrator for ABC’s 1980s-set comedy The Goldbergs. The actor’s casting in the untitled Fox pilot — produced by 20th Century Fox Television — is not expected to impact The Goldbergs, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
Steinel (Red Oaks) will pen the script and co-executive produce the comedy. Sue Naegle and Jeff Schaffer will exec produce, with the latter set to direct the pilot. Jon Daly co-stars.
