Paula Deen‘s forthcoming cookbook was canceled by her publisher after her admitted use of the N-word, but the celebrity chef’s previous titles saw a sales increase during the media frenzy last week.
Deen’s book sales increased from 500 to 4,000 copies sold during the week of June 30, according to Nielsen BookScan figures reported by Publishers Weekly. The title that saw the largest sales increase was 2011’s Paula Deen’s Southern Cooking Bible with 1,300 copies sold.
Presales for the cooking personality’s latest book, Paula Deen’s New Testament: 250 Favorite Recipes, All Lightened Up, appeared to be strong on Amazon prior to the title’s cancelation by Random House imprint Ballantine Books on June 28. The book was scheduled for a mid-October release.
Deen was dropped by the Food Network last month after news of her use of the N-word was revealed in a deposition during a discrimination lawsuit filed against her by a former manager of her restaurant. On Friday, she parted ways with her longtime agent, Barry Weiner.
Recently, she has lost multiple business partners, including Kmart, Sears and Target. Her magazine publisher, Hoffman Media, publisher of the bimonthly Cooking With Paula Deen, has stood by her.
