Pete Davidson opened up about his recent engagement to singer Ariana Grande in a profile for GQ, published on Thursday (Aug. 16).
The Saturday Night Live star said that his engagement is responsible for the public’s sudden interest in him. “It’s all bullshit. GQ wouldn’t hit me up if I didn’t recently get engaged to a super famous person,” he said. “Nobody gives a shit, you know what I mean?”
“The day I met her, I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll marry you tomorrow,'” he said about Grande. “She was calling my bluff. I sent her a picture [of engagement rings]. I was like, ‘Do you like any of these?’ She was like, ‘Those are my favorite ones,’ and I was like, ‘Sick.'”
The pair made headlines for quickly getting engaged after dating for less than a month. They recently moved into a Manhattan apartment that was reportedly on the market for $16 million.
Davidson said that Grande bought the apartment, though he provides the groceries. “She’s really sweet. She’s like, ‘This is our house,’ and I’m like, ‘You’re very nice for saying that. Thank you for letting me stay here,'” he joked. “She’s like, ‘We’re getting married!’ And I’m like, ‘I know, thank you for letting me stay here.'”
The comedian added that they are still in the process of decorating their new home. “It’s like, we have six beanbags, but we have no forks — you know what I mean?” he said. “We’re learning how to be adults. We’re having a really fun time.”
He also admitted that the sudden tabloid interest in him has been overwhelming. “I gotta tell you, up until about two months ago, if someone wrote about me, I saw it,” he said. “Nobody gave a shit two months ago, so anytime there was an article, I would obviously see it, because my mom would send it to me and be like, ‘Yaaay!'”
Davidson also revealed that he and Grande have not yet made solid wedding plans, though he said it is “definitely going to happen, for sure.”
The profile concludes with Grande meeting Davidson at the studio where the photo shoot took place. “The universe works in weird ways,” he said. “All I know is that I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
