Phil Lord and Chris Miller have found their next project.
The Last Man on Earth producer-director pair are creating a hybrid animated/live-action comedy for Fox, Son of Zahn.
The 8 to 10 minute pilot presentation will center on an animated Barbarian father who comes home for the first time in 10 years to his live-action son and ex-wife. He finds that reconnecting with his family, struggling through his mundane office job and dealing with the banality of suburban life is much harder than waging actual war in his distant, animated world.
The pilot, which will begin shooting later this summer, has cast its first live-action role. Johnny Pemberton, who previously worked with Lord and Miller on both 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, will play Zahn’s moody teenage son, Alan. Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Seth Cohen will executive produce. Eric Appel will direct and co-executive produce.
In addition to the upcoming second season of their Will Forte-created Fox comedy, Lord and Miller are working on 23 Jump Street, a sequel to The Lego Movie and a new big-screen version of The Flash.
Pemberton’s other credits include This Is 40 and Kroll Show.
