Piers Morgan isn’t being suspended from CNN, a network rep confirms to The Hollywood Reporter.
Rumors spread after an anchor on U.K. Channel 4, Jon Snow, Tweeted that Morgan was being suspended — the same week reports emerged that he may have known of the News of the World phone hacking scandal, which Morgan has denied.
“Sorry to disappoint you all, but I’m afraid poor old @jonsnowC4 got duped by a fake Twitter account. I’ve not been suspended by CNN,” wrote Morgan on Twitter.
“think it’s back to the naughty chair for you, Snowy. @jonsnowC4,” added Morgan.
Snow retracted the claim online as well, Tweeting, “Retraction ahoy..rumour mill produced info on Piers Morgan..was issued on a fake NOW accouint.no truth that Piers Morgan suspended by CNN.”
Earlier this week, Morgan (a former editor of The Sun and News of the World) downplayed a 2009 interview he gave to a BBC radio show in which he said “not a lot of that went on” when asked about phone hacking — which some have taken to believe meant he was aware of the illegal ways News of the World may have been gathering information. He has steadfastly denied that.
On Thursday it emerged that Rebekah Brooks may have given the mother of a murdered girl a cell phone that was later hacked by News of the World. Brooks denies the claim.
