Hunger Games is getting political with Donald Sutherland as President Snow. In Collins' novel, the president is described as "cruel and ruthless in his intimidation and control tactics," ruling over Panem and its contained districts for 25-plus years. He and Katniss have a contentious relationship throughout the series.
Lionsgate's big-screen version of The Hunger Games will be directed by Gary Ross and will be released in theaters March 23, 2012.

ReelzChannel has picked up Pillars of the Earth.
The nine-part miniseries, which premiered this year on Starz, will premiere Dec. 4 on Reelz with back-to-back episodes starting at 8 p.m.
“With The Pillars of the Earth fresh off its premium channel debut, many more viewers nationwide will now have a chance to enjoy this tremendous production on ReelzChannel,” CEO Stan E. Hubbard said Tuesday in a statement announcing the news.

The pickup for a second-run continues Reelz’s relationship with production company Muse Entertainment, who also produced the cable channel’s Emmy-nominated mini The Kennedys. Reelz will re-air The Kennedys starting Nov. 6.
“Response to The Kennedys world premiere revealed a strong viewer appetite for miniseries on our network,” Hubbard said. “What a better way to satisfy our viewers’ demands than by showing two Emmy-nominated miniseries in two months.”
Pillars, produced by Tandem Communications and Muse and based on the book by Ken Follett, stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell and Donald Sutherland in a story of war, religious strife and power struggles set in 12th century England.
Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free Films also produced the project.
Episodes will air daily starting Dec. 4, with Episodes 8 and 9 both airing Sunday, Dec. 11 and Monday, Dec. 12.
