The actor who played the Red Ranger in the Power Rangers Wild Force television series received the maximum sentence on Thursday for the murder of his roommate in 2015.
Ricardo Medina Jr., 38, was sentenced to six years in state prison stemming from his guilty plea earlier this month to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter for the murder of Joshua Sutter, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Medina admitted using a sword in the slaying, according to the district attorney’s office.
Medina was accused of stabbing the 36-year-old Sutter multiple times with a sword on Jan. 31, 2015, during an argument over Medina’s then-girlfriend, according to authorities.
Power Rangers Wild Force was one of several spinoffs of the original Power Rangers series. Medina appeared in the kids’ TV series from 2002-2003 and later on Power Rangers Samurai from 2011-2012. He also appeared on episodes on ER and CSI: Miami.
The big-screen reboot of Power Rangers is currently in theaters. The big-budget movie opened to a better-than-expected $40.5 million at the North American box office, where it was a worthy antidote to Beauty and the Beast.
