President Barack Obama on Wednesday telephoned Lara Logan, the CBS chief foreign affairs correspondent who was sexually assaulted in Cairo on Feb. 11 while covering Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak‘s resignation. Details of the conversation were not released.
CBS revealed Tuesday that Logan, on assignment for 60 Minutes, had been attacked by a mob and suffered a sustained sexual assault and beating.
Logan returned to the U.S. Saturday and was hospitalized until her release Tuesday. She is now recovering at her home in suburban Washington, D.C.
Logan, a native South African, has been CBS News chief foreign correspondent since 2006; she became a correspondent for 60 Minutes the same year and has also reported for Reuters, ABC News, CNN and Britain’s GMTV.
