Episode “Save the Date” brought on some major developments for the Liars.
At the end of the previous episode, we saw “A” injecting something, which may have been Botox, into a tube of cream. As suspected, this injected lotion took center stage tonight as Emily (Shay Mitchell) used it in excess to relieve some of her pains from her intense training. Little did she know “A” injected this tube with human growth hormones (HGH). Moments after getting a surprise visit from her dad at school, she collapses in the hall. The HGH, which showed up in her panels at the hospital, coupled with her stress from lying to her parents, winds up giving her an ulcer. As she is about to tell her dad the truth he conveniently tells her to “hell with Danby” and that no scholarship is more important than her happiness.
Prior to Emily’s take down, the girls’ suspicions about Garret (Yani Gellman) and Jenna (Tammin Sursok) were confirmed when they see him enter Jenna’s house and make out with her. Later in the episode, Garret informs Jenna that the girls are on to them. With Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) abrupt exit from his car the night before and her horrible lying to him in the hall at school, he knows they are suspicious. Jenna asks if they know about Jason (Drew Van Acker) to which he responds “Not sure but they’re definitely questioning whether Ian killed her.” Jenna eerily declares that they “need to take care of this.”
Though there was no appearance by Jason in this week’s episode, his presence still lingered throughout. Aria (Lucy Hale) assured Ezra (Ian Harding) he shouldn’t be worried about their relationship but you could feel his jealousy about being in the dark on Mike’s crime spree. Seems she may be telling another lie since she fibbed to Ezra about Jason’s phone call towards the end of the episode.
Meanwhile, Hanna (Ashley Benson) catches on that someone in a gray Camaro is tailing Caleb (Tyler Blackburn). With his dubious work dealings, she is nervous about it being the police. She finally confronts him with this information after picking him up in a hilarious disguise of sunglasses and a scarf and he tells her he won’t hide from whoever it may be and that this time he won’t leave her. It looks like this tail may not be what she thinks it is. After Hanna tells the mysterious man to get lost, we hear him say “He knows I’m tailing him. I’m sorry but it looks like he doesn’t want to see you.” Could he possibly be a PI for someone in Caleb’s real family?
In other parts of Hanna’s life, it looked like she was getting her fairy tale as her parents, April (Laura Leighton) and Tom (Roark Critchlow) appeared to be on the road to reconciliation. However, the arrival of Tom’s ‘save the date’ invitation woke April up from this fantasy. Much to the chagrin of Hanna, she sent Tom packing back to Isabelle.
With Emily in the hospital and some handy information from Wren (Julian Morris)(who is now working at Rosewood Community) about where autopsy results can be found, Spencer and Aria headed to the morgue as candy stripers to get more information on Ali’s murder. The girls learn that Ali was hit so hard with a curved blunt edge weapon (the field hockey stick?) that her skull was dented. This head trauma didn’t kill her though. She was still BREATHING when she was buried and there was dirt found in her lungs. They also discover page 5 of the autopsy report is missing. Does “A” have it? With what was probably “A” rising up from a morgue table at the end of the episode was he or she there when the Liars were? What is on this missing page?
There are so many new questions. Did Jason kill Ali? What do Garret and Jenna know? Are they “A”? Will Emily be able to swim again? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
Quotes of the week:
- “Can you turn on the heat? You could make a slushie back here!” – Hanna in the car
- “Oh please Jenna can’t hear us, she’s blind.” – Hanna re: her loud shoes while staking out Garret & Jenna
- “Were you premed in preschool?” – Aria to Spencer re: reading the autopsy report
- “Can we all go to Texas?” – Aria worried about being “A’s” next target
The next episode promises to deliver more information about Jason DiLaurentis and bring some big doings in his relationship with Aria. Hopefully we’ll get some answers. Catch “Picture This” next Tuesday August 9th at 8pm on ABC Family.
