Charles finally took off his mask on Pretty Little Liars, but the chaos is just getting started.
The character, whose identity has remained a mystery throughout the ABC Family drama’s sixth season, revealed his face to Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) during prom at the end of Tuesday’s episode, causing Ali to exclaim, “Oh, my god.”
The episode, which will be followed by next week’s summer season finale, also involved the Liars’ moms running into Rhys Matthews (Caleb Lane) in the DiLaurentis family home, with Rhys claiming he was looking for Mr. DiLaurentis (Jim Abele). By the end of the episode, the moms heard something in the basement and headed down there before promptly getting locked in.
Lane, who plays creepy Carissimi employee Rhys, tells The Hollywood Reporter that things would have been unlikely to end well for Mr. DiLaurentis had Rhys found him.
“Rhys had some questions for Mr. DiLaurentis, and he doesn’t actually come around,” Lane says. “I think [Rhys] wanted to find Mr. DiLaurentis and probably kidnap him.”
Lane says that more will soon be revealed about Rhys’ connection to Ali’s dad, which will be told in an “expository [way] through the other characters.”
As for Charles’ identity, which viewers will learn during next week’s finale, Lane encourages everyone to buckle up. “It’s going to be a shocker,” he promises. “I think a lot of people are going to be talking about it. I don’t think anybody is going to see it coming.”
Lane, who is heading to New York City soon for a role in an off-Broadway play, has been new to PLL this season, and he says it’s been a thrill to play the bad guy, not to mention to join such an established cast with a devoted fanbase.
“When I got on set, it was just like a big family,” Lane says. “They’ve worked together for so long, and the girls have actually grown up on that show. It was a Hollywood dream for me to be able to step onto the Warner lot.”
Pretty Little Liars‘ season six finale airs Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family. Let us know in the comments section who you think Charles is!
