The series has tapped supermodel and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss as its host, with former Project Runway champion and CFDA fashion designer Christian Siriano as mentor for the rebooted franchise. They will be joined by fashion designer Brandon Maxwell and former Teen Vogue editor in chief Elaine Welteroth, who will serve as judges. Nina Garcia will return as a judge.
Kloss, who will also executive produce the series, takes over as host from Klum, who also exec produced and served as a judge. Siriano replaces mentor Gunn. Maxwell and Welteroth replace Zac Posen as a judge. Klum and Gunn departed Project Runway in September following a salary renegotiation that saw the Emmy-winning duo, who have been with the series for all its previous 16 seasons, eventually exit for a lucrative fashion show for deep-pocketed streamer/retailer Amazon.
The retooled Project Runway is currently in preproduction and will premiere in 2019.
“These are the perfect faces for the new Project Runway, as we recalibrate for a new generation of fashion enthusiasts,” Bravo executive vp current production Shari Levine said Wednesday in a statement. “They are entrepreneurs and trailblazers with tremendous reach inside and outside the fashion industry, and give Bravo and our producing partners, Magical Elves and Lantern Entertainment, the right fuel to re-energize the franchise.”
Project Runway returned to Bravo in May. The fashion design competition series aired its first five seasons on the NBCUniversal-owned cabler before moving to Lifetime in 2008.
“As someone who grew up watching Project Runway, I could not be more excited to host and produce a series that provides a platform to aspiring American designers as they pursue their creative and entrepreneurial dreams,” said Kloss. “I am equally as thrilled to work alongside an incredibly talented group of fashion innovators — Brandon Maxwell, Elaine Welteroth, Nina Garcia and Christian Siriano — to inspire, support and help guide these designers as they realize their visions and build everlasting brands and businesses.”
Added Siriano: “Project Runway has offered such wonderful opportunities for so many and I’m excited to take on this role as a mentor. I hope to guide and inspire the new talent on the rise.”
A premiere date for season 17 has yet to be determined.
