Bravo Shoots Down Report It’s Casting ‘The Real Housewives of Charlotte’

While Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise continues to perform well in the ratings, the network isn’t looking to develop a new installment in “The Queen City” as a new report suggests.

“Bravo is not casting a show in Charlotte and this casting is not at all affiliated with the network,” a Bravo spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter contrary to a report from Winston-Salem’s WXII12 TV station (which has since been taken down).

According to the NBC affiliate, Bravo’s producers are searching for “outspoken Charlotte moms between the ages of 28-45 to star in its latest ‘Real Housewives’ installment.”

It goes on to describe that the producers “would like a group of moms who live in the same town where they grew up and whose group dynamic has continued to blossom through motherhood.” And that shooting will begin within weeks.

This is just the latest of many reports of new additions to the franchise, which have included rumored locations in Toledo, Westchester, and San Francisco to name a few. Some have presumably arrived from different production companies and networks, which are unaffiliated with Bravo who may be trying to capitalize on the franchise’s success with similar projects.

In March of last year, Development and Talent EVP and Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen pronounced there would be no new Real Housewives series after Miami (which THR was the first to report had just been renewed for a second season).

That doesn’t mean the network hasn’t given green lights to spinoff series such as the one New York’s Bethenny Frankel and Atlanta’s Kim Zolciak both nabbed. Zolciak’s cast mate, Kandi Burruss, also scored an upcoming special called The Kandi Factory premering Sunday, March 4.

There are also several international versions in the works. NBCUniversal reps told THR for its Real Housewives cover story that casting is under way for offshoots in France, Australia’s Gold Coast, Asia (Indonesia, Singapore, and Hong Kong) with the U.K. soon to follow — making it TV’s first docu-soap to franchise overseas.
