Luann de Lesseps made a Tuesday morning appearance on Megyn Kelly Today, where the Real Housewives of New York City star opened up about her ongoing struggle with sobriety. De Lesseps sat down with Kelly 10 days after leaving rehab — her second round of treatment within a year.
“I had two or three of those [watermelon martinis], then I had, I think two bottles of rosé by myself and then I had probably a six pack of beer or something,” she said of the alcohol she consumed the night she relapsed. “I can’t have just one drink.”
The Bravo personality told Kelly a legal scuffle with her ex-husband Count Alexandre de Lesseps and their children, daughter Victoria and son Noel, led to her relapse. Last month, the trio filed a lawsuit against Luann de Lesseps over an $8 million house sale. According to court documents obtained by The Blast, she breached a stipulation of settlement in her divorce by not creating a trust “for the benefit of her two children.”
“I found out about this whole story with the ex-Count that I was getting sued in the press,” said de Lesseps. “That was devastating. I felt betrayed.”
Since then, the “Money Can’t Buy You Class” singer and former Countess has seemingly smoothed things over with her family. De Lesseps, who originally wanted to sell her Hamptons home so she could purchase a “very big” property in upstate New York, has decided to keep her Long Island property.
“I’ve decided to take something smaller and keep my home for the children because I love them,” the mom of two said.
Now, with her relationship with her children repaired and nearly 30 days of sobriety under her belt, de Lesseps feels optimistic again about the future. “I feel good, I feel great actually. Every day is a struggle. I take it day by day, I am going to be 30 days sober tomorrow, so I am celebrating that. I have this whole new life,” she said, adding that she enjoys attending AA meetings. “I take it very seriously, I love meetings. I have a whole new family.”
De Lesseps added: “At this point, I feel like I am almost allergic to alcohol. Because I can’t be like most normal people and have a glass or two of wine. I will drink the whole bottle and then looking where can I get another bottle? It just didn’t work for me. I am not wired that way.”
De Lesseps first entered rehab in late December, after she was arrested in Palm Beach, Fla. She was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, disorderly intoxication and corruption by threat.
Bravo’s cameras were rolling before and after de Lesseps’ arrest. While the reality TV vet — who has appeared on RHONY since its debut in 2008 — has opened up about the incident throughout the current season, she will not be featured on the upcoming reunion as she was in rehab when it was filmed.
