The Disney-backed broadcast network has tapped the former Pitch Perfect star to host a dog grooming competition series called Pooch Perfect.
Lisa Vanderpump, celebrity dog groomer Jorge Bendersky and vet Dr. Callie Harris will serve as the trio of judges on the eight-episode series from producers Beyond Media Rights Limited. The series is based on the format of the same name that aired last year in Australia that also was hosted by Wilson. The series was originally created in the U.K. and produced by Beyond.
Each episode will showcase 10 dog groomers in the country and their assistants competing in challenges including “Immunity Puppertunity” and the “Ultimutt.” (Yes, really.) Here’s how ABC describes it: “In these challenges, the teams face off in epic grooming trans-fur-mations and showcase their incredible creations on the illustrious ‘dogwalk.'” The top three teams at the end of the season will compete for a cash prize. (It’s unclear if the pups featured on the series will also receive treats for their participation.)
Wilson starred as “Fat Amy” in all three Pitch Perfect films. Pooch Perfect brings the actress back to ABC, where she previously starred in the 2013 comedy Super Fun Night. Here’s a clip of Wilson hosting the Australian version of the series.
Pooch Perfect arrives after HBO Max aired a similar dog grooming competition show last year, Haute Dog. The deal for Pooch Perfect had been in the works for some time as former ABC entertainment president Karey Burke bought the show before being promoted to run Disney studio 20th Television.
