Rescue Me alum Jack McGee has become the first person cast in CBS’ The McCarthys.
The pilot is described as a family comedy about a loud, sports-crazed Boston family, with McGee landing the role of Arthur McCarthy, the father of the group.
Arthur is a high school basketball coach who’s not always politically correct.

The single-camera vehicle hails from Are You There, Chelsea? writer Brian Gallivan and exec producers Will Gluck and Richie Schwartz.
The veteran actor played chief Jerry Reilly on FX’s Rescue Me. In addition to Spike’s sports-themed improv comedy Players, McGee most recently played Micky Ward’s father, George, in the 2010 Oscar-nominated feature The Fighter. He’s repped by APA and Semler Entertainment.
