UPDATE 9/14: ‘Jay Leno Show’ reviews rundown here
Two writers from Comedy.com attended a guest taping of “The Jay Leno Show” and have posted a detailed review online.
Such a move is, of course, entirely unfair.
“It’s a test taping,” you can already hear a publicist saying, “it doesn’t count!”
Yes, yes, of course it doesn’t.
But with so much anticipation and curiosity about the show, any tidbits are interesting.
The comics attending the show were very impressed by the set, though found the new format “muddled and confusing.”
“There’s not enough innovation, and too much that reminds us of the old ‘Tonight Show’ for us to feel like this is Jay’s true ‘victory lap’primetime show.”
The writers said the Green Car Challenge segment fell flat (duh), with Selma Blair driving around a race track for nearly a minute but it “felt like an hour.”
A couple of the comedian correspondent segments received more positive praise, calling one segment with comic Nick Thune “hilarious.”
“At the end of the test taping, the producers asked us a couple questions. Not about content (thank God), but acoustics. Hollywood never ceases to amaze us.”
