Adult Swim announced the return of its Emmy-winning animated series Rick and Morty – and revealed a trailer.
Season five will get underway on Sunday, June 20 at 11 p.m.
Here’s a first look at the new season:
The network is also attempting to brand the date “Rick and Morty Day” with behind the scenes footage and “special surprises across TV, digital and social.”
Season five was delayed a bit due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new season will consist of 10 episodes as usual.
Co-creator Dan Harmon had teased the season during a virtual panel earlier this month at South by Southwest, saying the team is continuing to work on the season. “I shamefully tell you that my old way of thinking I need to perfect the script before I hand it off to artists was so ass backwards that even during a pandemic — now that I’ve started collaborating better — we’re way ahead of the non-pandemic schedule,” he said, teasing that the new episodes would have, “robot boobies… because it’s the future. You thought regular boobies were interesting. Wait until 2021 hits you.”
