Robin Roberts is getting into the Lifetime original movie business.
As part of the cable network’s push to increase its load of original telepics, climbing to an anticipated 75 in 2019, the Good Morning America anchor will produce her own efforts under the banner of Robin Roberts Presents.
A mix of scripted projects and documentaries, Robin Roberts Presents will first take on the subjects of gospel singer and civil rights activist Mahalia Jackson and adult kidnap survivor Alexis Manigo. Each will be translated into a film, with Bettina Gilois writing the Jackson script and Michele Samit and Richard Kletter tackling Manigo.
Each of the two films will be accompanied by a documentary project focused on the same subjects. (They will be produced by Roberts’ Rock’n Robin shingle and Lincoln Square Productions for Lifetime.)
Elsewhere in Lifetime originals, the network has also committed to making an anthology series Seven Deadly Sins from producer Bishop T.D. Jakes, as well as more IP from V.C. Andrews (remember Flowers in the Attic?) with the development of five new movies based on the late writer’s Casteel series.
