A miniseries centered on the former Fox News chairman is in the works from Blumhouse Television, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The mini is based on reporting by journalist Gabriel Sherman, who chronicled Ailes‘ exit from Fox News this past summer following sexual assault allegations from several women, most notably former anchor Gretchen Carlson. Sherman’s book, The Loudest Voice in the Room, will serve as source material for the series, as will Sherman’s reporting on Ailes for New York magazine, where Sherman is national affairs editor.
Sherman broke several of the biggest stories regarding Ailes, and was the first to report Ailes‘ departure from the cable news channel in July after 20 years in addition to interviewing several of Ailes‘ accusers. Ailes was said to have compiled a 400-plus page dossier on Sherman while the latter was reporting on the allegations made against him.
Sherman will co-executive produce the project with his wife, journalist Jennifer Stahl, and Oscar winner Tom McCarthy (Spotlight) will shepherd and exec produce the project. Blumhouse Television will finance, produce and package the series, which is not yet attached to a network.
McCarthy is repped by Gersh and Andrew Hurwitz. Sherman and Stahl are repped by Gail Ross and Jody Hotchkiss.

The Ailes project is the first acquisition by Blumhouse Television co-presidents Jeremy Gold and Marci Wiseman, who recently joined the company to expand it into new business and creative areas alongside Jessica Rhoades, Blumhouse Television’s longtime head of programming and development.
Blumhouse TV’s past credits include Emmy-winning HBO projects The Jinx and The Normal Heart. Upcoming series include HBO drama Sharp Objects starring Amy Adams and unscripted entry Hellevator at GSN. On the film side, Blumhouse Productions’ credits include Whiplash, The Purge, Insidious and the Paranormal Activity franchise.
The New York Times first reported the project, which was announced at Vanity Fair‘s New Establishment Summit on Wednesday.
