Rome Hartman has been named executive producer of NBC’s upcoming primetime newsmagazine hosted by Brian Williams. Hartman spent more than 20 years at CBS News where he was a producer at 60 Minutes before being tapped in 2006 to launch Katie Couric’s evening newscast. He left CBS News in 2007 amidst a retooling of Couric’s broadcast and has been the executive producer of BBC America’s Washington-based nightly newscast.
David Corvo, executive producer of NBC’s Dateline, has been elevated to senior executive producer for primetime news. The Williams-hosted newsmagazine and Dateline will continue to be part of Corvo’s purview.
The new program does not have a premiere date, but NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said recently that as soon as it’s ready, he’ll find a place on the schedule for it.
“NBC News is strategically positioned to launch a new primetime newsmagazine, and Rome Hartman is the perfect person to collaborate with David Corvo to see that through,” NBC News president Steve Capus said in a statement . “An award-winning producer with integrity, credibility, and vast knowledge of producing hard news and long-form programming, we are tremendously excited to have Rome on board. We are equally thrilled to have David, who has led the successful and critically acclaimed Dateline team for the past 10 years, add this new project to his portfolio.”
Hartman will work closely with Corvo and Williams to launch the newsmagazine, which does not yet have a title. Williams will anchor the program which will feature pieces from NBC’s stable of correspondents including Meredith Vieira, whose last day as co-host of Today is June 8.
