The music-themed cable network has picked up the Seacrest-produced docuseries Girls in the Game, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The six-episode half-hour series follows a group of up-and-coming white female rappers as they aspire to and struggle for fame. Seacrest will executive produce the series alongside Ryan Seacrest Productions’ outgoing CEO Adam Sher. A formal premiere date has not yet been announced.
Game marks the latest unscripted sale for RSP, following Esquire Network’s How I Rock It, E!’s The Wanted Life, Bravo’s Shahs of Sunset and E!’s Kardashian franchise, among others, as well as the Los Angeles-based production company’s first scripted entry, ABC’s midseason comedy Mixology.
The news comes two years after the American Idol host was in talks to take over VH1 Soul in a deal that ultimately saw the multihyphenate partner with Mark Cuban’s HDNet to form music-themed AXS network.
The sale comes a month after RSP sold 40 episodes of kids game show Go Viral to fellow Viacom-owned network Nickelodeon.
For VH1, the series joins a roster of unscripted entries including Mob Wives and Love & Hip Hop, as well as the latter’s spinoff, Chrissy & Mr. Jones, among others.
Seacrest is repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson.
