Ryan Seacrest has found a new unscripted chief.
His eponymous Ryan Seacrest Productions has tapped producer Teri Kennedy as executive vp development and original unscripted programming. The news comes three months after RSP’s partnership with Endemol Shine North America officially took hold.
In the new role, Kennedy will be responsible for developing, formatting and running new unscripted series for the company as well as overseeing all creative and logistic elements of RSP’s forthcoming shows. Kennedy comes from Oxygen Media, where she most recently served as head of current. In that position, she was the production exec on such series as Snapped, Best Ink and The Face.
The Los Angeles-based exec began her 20-plus-year career as a freelance producer on series including Survivor and The Real World. In the years in between, she worked on a mix of talk shows, docuseries and specials for a host of different networks.
Kennedy’s new home, RSP, which was founded in 2006, has produced a diverse slate, including E!’s expansive Kardashian franchise, along with E!’s Married to Jonas, Bravo’s Shahs of Sunset and NBC’s scripted series Shades of Blue, starring Jennifer Lopez.
The company struck its deal with Endemol to gain both scale and reach. The move was designed to offer RSP’s lean unscripted group significantly more leverage and access when it comes to international formats, an area in which any untethered independent would struggle in today’s increasingly competitive landscape.
