Sacha Baron Cohen Comedy Series ‘Highston’ Scrapped at Amazon

Amazon is no longer moving forward with comedy series Highston.

More than a year after it handed out a six-episode series order to the comedy exec produced by Borat’s Sacha Baron Cohen, the streaming service has abandoned the project, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

“We love Bob, Jon and Val, both producers named Todd and the incredibly talented cast,” said Joe Lewis, head of comedy and drama development at Amazon Studios. “Unfortunately, not every series works out.”

Tweeted co-star Armstrong late Monday: “People have been asking when #Highston will premiere. It won’t. @Amazon now says the show won’t be picked up after all. A big disappointment.”

Highston was to have been Cohen’s return to television following an overall deal he signed with FX in 2013. The series was picked up in December 2015, one of five scripted series the streamer greenlit at the time that also included One Mississippi, Z: The Beginning of Everything, since-canceled Good Girls Revolt and Patriot. The status of the latter is unclear, while One Mississippi is awaiting word on a second season. Z is due this month.

Also awaiting word on their future at Amazon are Woody Allen’s Crisis in Six Scenes, Fleabag, Mozart in the Jungle, Red Oaks and Goliath, with the latter’s showrunner David E. Kelley recently telling THR that he expected the Billy Bob Thornton drama to return.
