BET is locking down The Game and Being Mary Jane creators Salim and Mara Brock Akil.
The Viacom-owned cable network has inked a new two-year overall deal with the Akils and their Akil Productions banner, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The deal keeps the couple at the network through 2016 and extends their previous three-year pact with the cabler.

The Akils are responsible for launching BET into original scripted programming with The Game, currently in production for its eighth season, and Being Mary Jane, which opened as a backdoor pilot to 5 million viewers. Mara Brock Akil created both series. Being Mary Jane’s second season is expected to return in 2015.
The Akils are repped by ICM Partners and Morris Yorn.
