A female face is finally entering the late-night fray, and Samantha Bee is ready to make up for lost time.
In a new teaser for her upcoming late-night show unveiled Wednesday at Turner’s upfront presentation, the former Daily Show correspondent proudly declares, “I am female as f—.”
In the clip, Bee is seen in a museum-like setting looking at photos of the many men of late night. “I feel like something is missing,” says Bee when she is then approached by a waiter offering a variety of sausages. “I think I’m kind of done with sausages,” says Bee.
Both broadcast and cable networks have come under heavy scrutiny recently for the lack of diversity, and particularly the lack of female voices in late night.
Bee was a fixture at The Daily Show for nearly 12 years before she said farewell on May 1. Her husband, Jason Jones, also departed The Daily Show earlier this year. The two are exec producers on Bee’s new series, as well as Jones’ upcoming scripted family-vacation comedy series, The Detour, which will also air on TBS.
Bee joins fellow TBS late-night host Conan O’Brien. The cable network has tried several times to find a successful show to pair with Conan. George Lopez‘s show was shuttered in 2010, and Pete Holmes‘ entry was canceled in 2014.
Bee’s new show will debut later this year.
