Acclaimed Scottish actress Samantha Morton (Sweet and Lowdown, Minority Report), plans to return to the director’s chair to complete the autobiographical trilogy she started with 2009’s The Unloved.
Morton made her directorial debut with the drama, which starred Robert Carlyle, Susan Lynch and Molly Windsor and was based on Morton’s own experiences growing up in the U.K. in a state-run children’s home. The two follow-up films would continue the story of Lucy, the young girl played by Windsor in the first movie.
“I conceived of it from the start as a trilogy, and I’ve written the other two films,” Morton told The Hollywood Reporter. “So I’m working on it.”
Nearly 2 million viewers watched the U.K. premiere of The Unloved on Channel 4 back in 2009, an impressive rating for the channel at the time. The movie went on to win a BAFTA for best single drama and Morton was nominated for a Brit award.
Morton is currently at the MIPCOM television market in Cannes for the upcoming CanalPlus/Sky Atlantic TV series The Last Panthers, in which she stars alongside John Hurt, Goran Bogdan and Tahar Rahim.
