Sandra Oh is returning to the small screen.
More than two years after exiting Grey’s Anatomy, Oh is returning to TV — and ABC — with a guest role on John Ridley anthology American Crime.
Season three of the drama is set in Alamance County, N.C., and explores labor issues and economic divides in addition to individual rights. Oh will have a recurring role and play Abby Tanaka, a social worker who runs a local shelter dedicated to housing victims of domestic abuse in the face of community indifference.
She joins fellow American Crime stars set to return for season three, including Timothy Hutton, Felicity Huffman, Regina King, Lili Taylor, Richard Cabral and Connor Jessup. Ridley and Michael McDonald exec produce the ABC Studios drama. American Crime returns in 2017, but a premiere date has not yet been announced.
For Oh, the role marks her TV follow-up to Shonda Rhimes‘ Grey’s Anatomy in which she was one of the medical drama’s original stars. Oh was written out in the season 10 finale after a decade playing prickly doctor Cristina Yang. She earned five supporting actress Emmy nominations for the role and took home a Golden Globe in 2006.
Since exiting Grey’s, Oh has focused on feature films, including Catfight and Window Horses, the latter of which she produced, as well as theater, with roles in plays such as Julia Cho’s Office Hour at the South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, Calif.
