Saoirse Ronan Plays ‘Bridesmaids’ Trivia Quiz, Shows Off Different Accents on ‘Tonight Show’

Saoirse Ronan stopped by The Tonight Show on Tuesday to promote her upcoming film Mary Queen of Scots, though she also tested her Bridesmaids trivia, showed off her many accents, sang with the host and played charades during the appearance.

The actress briefly discussed the film, which follows Mary, Queen of Scots (Ronan), after she tried to overthrow her cousin, England’s Queen Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie), from the throne. Mary is ultimately condemned to years of imprisonment for her actions.

“She was sent away to France when she was five and she returns when she’s 19,” she said about her character. “She was never really raised to be a queen, like a ruling queen, so she’s sort of thrown in at the deep end.”

During her appearance, Ronan also revealed that she is a huge fan of the 2011 comedy Bridesmaids. “I’m playing it in my head right now,” she joked about the film.

Fallon decided to see if Ronan was a true fan by asking her a series of trivia questions.

The first question Ronan was asked is what Rebel Wilson’s character uses to treat her infected tattoo. “She uses a bag of peas. She uses the peas out of the bag,” she correctly answered.

Other questions that Ronan correctly answered included which castmembers are roommates, what food the characters eat before the wedding dress fitting scene and what Melissa McCarthy’s character wants the bridal shower theme to be.

Fallon also asked what nickname Kristen Wiig’s character gives the obnoxious flight attendant Steve. “Stove. He’s an appliance,” answered Ronan. She then quoted the film, “‘Are you an appliance?’ ‘No, I’m a man.'”

The host then prompted Ronan to sing the song Wiig and Rose Byrne sing at Maya Rudolph’s character’s engagement party. “Keep smiling. Keep shining. Knowing you can always count on me,” she sang before Fallon joined in. “That’s what friends are for.”

Fallon later told Ronan that the show recruited a fan to ask a question, though a video revealed that the “fan” was Robbie.

“Hi Saoirse. Big fan of your work. I especially admire how good you are at doing accents,” she said. “I was just wondering if you could give us your best Australian accent?”

“No pressure,” Ronan responded to the clip. “I feel like she knows I’m not really good at the Aussie accent.” She then said that the Aussie accent is her “Achilles’ heel.”

She admitted that she gets confused between the Aussie and Kiwi accents. “The Kiwi accent is sort of like this. It’s very relaxed,” she said while doing the accent. She then did her best Aussie accent as she said, “While the Aussie accent is a bit more nasally.”

Ronan also joined Fallon for a sing-along following a conversation they had during a previous appearance where she taught him about Irish pub lock-ins. “The whole town just goes to the pub. We lock the doors, we have a drink and we have a sing-song,” she said.

The two, who wore Christmas-theme scarves and stood by a piano decorated with candles, then sang a duet of “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues.

“It was Christmas Eve, babe/ In the drunk tank/ An old man said to me, won’t see another one/ And then he sang a song,” Fallon sang with a slight Irish accent.

Ronan began to sing as the song sped up. “They’ve got cars big as bars/ They’ve got rivers of gold/ But the wind goes right through you,” she sang. “It’s no place for the old/ When you first took my hand.”

As they continued the performance, the two took sips from glasses of beer and encouraged the audience to sing along.

The performance concluded with the two clinking their glasses and raising their beers to the audience.

Ronan kept busy during the appearance and also joined Fallon, Alessia Cara and Anderson .Paak in a game of charades.

Fallon was up first and had to silently give his partner, Ronan, clues to guess his phrase, which was “Baby Got Back.” He told her that it was a song that consisted of three words. He then pretended to cradle a baby and pointed to his behind. After the second clue, Ronan correctly guessed the phrase.

Cara was up next and did her best to silently depict the term “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” to Paak. After she struck a warrior pose, her partner correctly guessed the answer.

Ronan was then tasked with silently describing the superhero Ant-Man to Fallon. Though Fallon quickly guessed the word “man,” he struggled while guessing other superheroes like Spiderman and Batman as Ronan did her best to act out ant-like motions. Fallon eventually guessed the correct superhero.

For Paak’s turn, he had to depict the song “When Doves Cry.” Cara accurately guessed that the third word was “cry” when Paak pointed to fake tears on his face. He flapped his arms like wings to depict the word “dove,” though Cara was unable to guess the song name by the time the buzzer went off.

During the final round, Ronan and Cara were given the same term to silently act out. After the two chose their term, which was “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” they quickly tried to give clues to their partners. Fallon was first to guess the song name, which secured his and Ronan’s title as the winners of the game.
