Scandal star Bellamy Young is staying put at ABC.
With the Shondaland drama in production on its final episodes, the actress has been tapped to star in the network’s drama pilot False Profits.
The project follows a team of down-and-out women in suburban Arizona as they fight their way to the top of the cutthroat world of a multilevel marketing cosmetics business.
Young will star as Laura, a single mom with two kids, who is the kind of level-headed woman who makes the best of a bad situation — and the last couple years have been bad indeed. Tired of being 10 steps behind, Laura signs up for a multilevel marketing scheme for selling cosmetics.

Young originally was cast for a handful of episodes as a recurring player in season one of Scandal, playing then-first lady Mellie Grant. The actress has since gone on to be a fan favorite, with Grant now serving as the show’s President of the United States. Young earned a best supporting actress Critics’ Choice trophy for her portrayal. She next appears in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. Young is repped by UTA, Anonymous Content and Schreck Rose.
Kayla Alpert (Ally McBeal, Code Black) penned the script for False Profits and will executive produce alongside Jason Reed and Sabrina Wind. Paul McGuigan — who directed Young in an episode of Scandal — will helm the pilot.
Young is the third member of the Scandal cast to book a pilot this season. Scott Foley (who plays Jake) will also stay at ABC with the action drama Whiskey Cavalier, which he also produces, while Emmy winner Joe Morton (Rowan) will co-star in CBS’ God Friended Me.
