Syfy has tapped Scott Vila to the newly created position of vice president of current scripted programming, the cable network announced Wednesday.
Vila will be based in Los Angeles and will report to Erik Storey, svp of original programming.
In his new position, he will oversee Warehouse 13, Haven and Being Human. THR broke the news that Syfy was developing a Warehouse 13 spin-off series centered on the character of H.G. Wells.
“Throughout his career, Scott has consistently developed quality television,” said Mark Stern, president of original content at Syfy and co-head of original content at Universal Cable Productions, in a statement. “His diverse strengths, from targeting compelling stories to overseeing successful execution, will contribute immeasurably to the growth of Syfy’s scripted programming.”
Vila previously served as vp of original programming at A&E, where he oversaw the development for The Glades, The Beast and The Cleaner. He was also the svp of drama at Twentieth Century Fox TV, where he worked on 24, Dark Angel, The Practice, Boston Public and Judging Amy.
He has executive produced NBC’s Medical Investigation, which ran on NBC from 2003-05, and produced The Simple Life from 2002-03.
