Late-night hosts continued to discuss the feud between Donald Trump and Omarosa Manigault Newman on Tuesday (Aug. 14) night.
Manigault Newman released secretly recorded conversations between herself and both Chief of Staff John Kelly and Trump. Seth Meyers shared a tweet from Trump posted on Tuesday addressing her actions. “When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!” reads the tweet.
“This isn’t the first time that Donald Trump has referred to firing a dog in a tweet. He’s done it multiple times,” said the Late Night host. Tweets written by Trump calling Ted Cruz, Bill Maher and Chuck Todd dogs appeared onscreen “It’s strange because most people, when they think of dogs, don’t think of firing them.
“We wondered what that would even look like, so please enjoy our new segment ‘Seth Fires a Dog,'” he said. A dog named Kevin then made his way onto the stage. “Kevin, I feel I have been very patient with you, but the reality is the quality of your work is not up to our standard,” said Meyers as he tried to keep a straight face. “Not to mention you won’t stay on your mark for this sketch.”

“Kevin!” Meyers said as the dog failed to stay still. “We have rehearsed this multiple times, and we’ve made it very clear you were to stay on your mark, Kevin.”
Meyers invited Kevin to hop onto a chair, though the dog walked away. “Kevin, on your resume it said you were good at sketches. You’re not good at sketches, Kevin. And that’s why I’m going to say something very hurtful to you, Kevin. And I’m gonna go completely off cards cause none of this makes sense if you won’t stand still.”
After Meyers told Kevin that he’s fired, the dog continued to wander around the stage. Meyers then asked the audience to give the dog, whose actual name is Daphne, a round of applause.
“We had our fun here, but in regards to this Omarosa business, let’s not forget that anyone who calls a black woman a dog is a racist with a rotted-out soul,” said Meyers.
Stephen Colbert also addressed the topic on The Late Show. He showed the audience a copy of Manigault Newman’s newly released book Unhinged, which was marked down as 30 percent off. “It’s the literary equivalent of day old sushi,” he said.
Colbert then said that the book includes the bombshell that Manigault Newman heard Trump use the N-word in a tape from The Celebrity Apprentice. “If this shocking allegation is true, it would undeniably make some of his fans very happy,” he said. “Others would go, ‘I don’t like that he’s a racist, but you know, taxes.'”
The host shared a tweet from Trump stating that The Celebrity Apprentice producer Mark Burnett said that the tapes don’t exist. “Well that settles it,” said Colbert. “A guy called him and told him it’s not on tape. You know what they say. If a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one there to hear it say the N-word, is it racist?”
Trump concluded the tweet by writing, “I don’t have that word in my vocabulary, and never have.” Colbert responded with his Trump impression. “Yes, I have taken that word out of my vocabulary and hidden it with my taxes. You’ll never find it.”

Colbert then addressed Trump’s tweet that calls Manigault Newman a dog. “That is so weird that Trump uses ‘dog’ as an insult. He should love dogs. You don’t have to pay to watch them pee,” said Colbert. He then pointed out that firing dogs is a recurring theme in Trump’s tweets. “He’s pretty excited about dogs getting fired for a man who’s afraid of getting impooched.”
A clip of Sarah Huckabee Sanders saying the she “can’t guarantee” Trump will never use the N-word was then played. “Look, I haven’t been in every single room,” said Huckabee Sanders after stating she’s never heard Trump use the word.
“Is there a special room where he says this?” asked Colbert. “Please, please, please tell me it’s not the Lincoln bedroom.”
Colbert then shared a clip of Huckabee Sanders stating that Trump’s comments have nothing to do with race. “Folks, it has nothing to do with race. He’s an equal opportunity insulter,” said Colbert. “It’s like Martin Luther King so famously said, ‘I have a dream that one day the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will sit down at the table of brotherhood and Mark Burnett does not record it.'”

The host then referenced an interview Manigault Newman did with MSNBC in which she said that she plans to reveal all of the corruption that has taken place in the White House. “All of it? Be careful, Omarosa. You wouldn’t want to damage your relationship with the president. He might not hire you four more times,” said Colbert.
Manigault Newman also said in the interview that Trump was aware of Hillary Clinton’s emails before they were released. “That is a massive revelation,” said Colbert. “The emails that Russia hacked, that Wikileaks leaked, Donald Trump somehow knew before they were actually released. Somewhere in Washington Robert Mueller is yelling, ‘Spoiler alert!'”
James Corden also discussed the release of Unhinged on The Late Late Show. “Let me tell you, it is a real page-stopper,” he said. “It’s being criticized everywhere. People are saying it’s petty, full of outright fabrications. So if you love reading Trump’s tweets, you’re gonna love this book.”
Unhinged has been called “a new peak in disgrace,” Corden joked, “which upset the president because that was gonna be his 2020 campaign slogan.”
The host said that the book claims that Melania Trump uses her fashion choices to upset her husband. “You know, the same way her husband uses fashion choices to punish anyone with eyeballs,” Corden said.
Jimmy Fallon brought back his Trump News Network to address the release of Unhinged from the president’s perspective on The Tonight Show.
“You shouldn’t believe a single word of it. It’s fake, it’s phony and worst of all it’s a book,” said Fallon as Trump. “Can you believe it? Omarosa calls me a racist misogynist, but that is ridiculous. I am not a racist.
“What I’m saying is that wacky Omarosa is a total liar,” continued Fallon. “In her book she says she once walked in on me eating paper. I have never eaten paper unless you count when the receipt was stuck to my Big Mac.”
Jimmy Kimmel also addressed the feud on Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. “I’m not sure who I’m supposed to root for in this,” he said. “It’s like Lord Voldemort versus King Joffrey.”
The host said that Trump has vehemently denied that he used the N-word. “In fact he said some of his best friends are N-words,” said Kimmel.
Referring to Trump’s tweet that the N-word is not in his vocabulary, Kimmel said, “He doesn’t have that word in his vocabulary along with almost every other two-syllable word.”
Kimmel then read the tweet in which Trump calls Manigault Newman a dog. “Only Donald Trump would defend himself from being racist by saying something sexist,” he said.
The host then shared Huckabee Sanders’ comments that Trump’s statement had nothing to do with Manigault Newman’s race. “The president’s very fond of dogs. In fact, look at how comfortable he is with this one,” said Kimmel as a photo of Trump barely petting a dog appeared onscreen. “They go to the same groomer.”
Kimmel added that Katrina Pierson denied Manigault Newman’s claim that Trump used the N-word a day before Manigault Newman released an audio recording of Pierson confirming Trump’s use of the word. “Now the word inside the White House is that they’re worried Omarosa might have dozens of tapes and that other staffers might have tapes and of course there are these alleged Apprentice tapes and on top of all of those we uncovered this tape today of the president using all kinds of N-words,” said Kimmel.
A compilation of clip that featured Trump saying words like “Nasty,” “North Korea” and “NFL” was then shared.
Trevor Noah interviewed Manigault Newman on Tuesday’s episode of The Daily Show. Manigault Newman claimed she was “not trolling” the Trump administration by sharing the secretly recorded audio clips during the appearance.
