Young Eddie Huang is about to meet one of his heroes.
Shaquille O’Neal has boarded the sophomore season of Fresh Off the Boat. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the retired NBA player is set to appear in the third episode of the ABC comedy’s second season — likely as himself, if you base it off the title.
Few details are available at the moment — and the episode is set to shoot in early September — but it’s called “Shaquille O’Neal Motors.” Historically speaking, it won’t be much of a stretch. Fresh Off the Boat takes place in 1990s Orlando, Fla., where Shaq played for the Magic between 1992 and 1996.
Shaq previously visited the 20th Century Fox TV show in name only, when a made-up video game starring the retired NBA center featured prominently in a first-season episode.
Fresh Off the Boat was a midseason surprise for ABC. From Nahnatchka Khan, the show performed surprisingly well in the typically sleepy Tuesday time slot. The network appears so confident in the new season that it’s pairing the show with its hotly anticipated Muppets vehicle.
