CBS’ Instinct is adding to its cast.
Sharon Leal (Supergirl) has joined the Alan Cumming-led drama as a series regular.
Instinct centers on Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Cumming), a former CIA operative who is lured back to his old life by tenacious NYPD detective Lizzie Needham (Bojana Novakovic) when she needs his help to stop a serial killer. The series is based on the soon-to-be-published James Patterson book.
Leal will play a friend of Lizzie’s who has recently been promoted to be their boss in the NYPD. The role was originated by Khandi Alexander in the pilot. However, it is being reconceived for the series, hence Leal’s casting. The cast also includes Naveen Andrews and Daniel Ings.
Instinct is slated to premiere midseason.
Cumming and Patterson also serve as an executive producers on the series, along with showrunner Michael Rauch (Royal Pains), Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Bill Robinson, Leopoldo Gout and Marc Webb, who directed the pilot. CBS Television Studios and Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout shingle will produce.
For Leal, the role comes after she starred in another CBS TV Studios drama, The Untitled Jenny Lumet Project, which was not picked up to series. Her other credits include Dreamgirls, Why Did I Get Married and Boston Public.
Leal is repped by Paradigm and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
