Shay Mitchell is staying in business with Warner Bros. Television.
The Pretty Little Liars alum has launched a production company and signed a pod deal with the producers behind the Freeform hit. Mitchell will develop scripted and unscripted projects for the company under the pact, which includes a talent holding deal. As part of the latter, Mitchell has signed on to co-star in Lifetime’s Greg Berlanti drama You, produced by Warner Horizon Scripted Television.
From writers and executive producers Berlanti and Sera Gamble (The Magicians), You is based on Caroline Kepnes‘ book and is described as a psychological thriller. The 10-episode drama is a 21st century love story that asks what you would do for love. When Joe (Penn Badgley), a brilliant bookstore manager, crosses paths with an aspiring writer, his answer becomes clear: anything. Using the internet and social media as his tools to gather the most intimate of details and get close to her, a charming and awkward crush quickly becomes an obsession as he quietly and strategically removes every obstacle — and person — in his way.
Mitchell will play Peach Salinger. With vast resources and family money, Peach is the controlling queen bee of Beck’s (Elizabeth Lail) inner circle of privileged friends. She has her sights set on Joe, in a way that feels oddly adversarial with Beck.
Berlanti and Gamble will pen the script and exec produce alongside Greg Berlanti Productions topper Sarah Schechter and Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. The series is a co-production of Warner Horizon Scripted Television (with Berlanti under an overall with Warner Bros. Television), A+E Studios and Alloy.
Meanwhile, Mitchell’s Amore & Vita Productions will see the actress and her producing partner David Dean Portelli develop scripted and unscripted projects for broadcast, cable, on-demand, streaming and digital platforms via WB’s portfolio, including Warner Bros. Television, Warner Horizon Scripted TV, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Television Group’s digital venture Blue Ribbon Content.
In June, Mitchell wrapped her seven-season run on Freeform’s network-defining hit Pretty Little Liars, which was produced by Warner Horizon. Her credits include the feature Mother’s Day. Mitchell, who has a social media footprint of 18 million on Instagram and another 3.7 million on Twitter, is repped by APA and David Dean Management.
