Humor and edge continue to define this "Sherlock" (Benedict Cumberbatch, right, with Martin Freeman), who's told by another character: "You always say such horrible things every time. Always."

The first trailer for season three of British series Sherlock has hit the web.
The teaser, which BBC aired at the end of an encore broadcast of the season-two finale episode “The Reichenbach Fall,” shows Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) alive and well, while his partner John Watson (Martin Freeman) enjoys a fancy dinner. What will Watson’s reaction be when he discovers Sherlock’s well-being? Looks like he’s in for the shock of a lifetime.
At Sherlock‘s Comic-Con panel in July, executive producer Steven Moffat premiered a previously unseen (and touching) season-three scene between Sherlock and Watson, and revealed that the season-three premiere, “The Empty Hearse,” focuses on the impact of Sherlock’s faked death on Watson.
It was also announced recently that Borgen star Lars Mikkelsen, brother to Hannibal‘s Mads Mikkelsen, was cast as the villainous Charles Augustus Magnussen.
Sherlock returns in the U.S. in 2014 on PBS Masterpiece.
