Showtime Goes Straight to Series With Brooklyn Comedy

Showtime is headed to Brooklyn for its next comedy series.

The premium cabler has given a 10-episode, straight-to-series order to Flatbush Misdemeanors, created by and starring stand-up comics Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman. The show is based on a digital series of the same name, which has won awards at the London Film Festival and Florida Film Festival.

Showtime and Avalon (Last Week Tonight With John Oliver) are co-producing the series, with the latter acting as lead studio.

“Flatbush Misdemeanors is a funny, audacious and inventive series that rips the artisanal sheen off of Brooklyn and mines comedy from the diverse, un-gentrified characters who live there,” said Showtime Entertainment president Gary Levine. “Kevin and Dan are multi-talented and have unique, authentic voices that we are thrilled to bring to Showtime audiences.”

Iso (Hulu’s High Fidelity) and Perlman (The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show) will play characters struggling to thrive in their new surroundings in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood. It will explore how the longtime friends try to climb out of their heads and connect with others.

“We started this project ourselves three years ago on zero budget, so this is a dream come true,” said Perlman. “We’re very grateful to everyone at Showtime, and we’re so excited to make a series that’s funny, distinct and special in a neighborhood we love.”

Added Iso, “Honestly, I’m just glad I can move into a building where they don’t steal packages.”

Perlman and Iso executive produce alongside Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday, David Martin and Chloe Pisello for Avalon.

Iso and Perlman are repped by Avalon and and Marcie Cleary at Frankfurt Kurnit.

Flatbush Misdemeanors joins a roster of comedy series at Showtime that includes Black Monday, Back to Life, Work in Progress, animated series Our Cartoon President and the upcoming Moonbase 8, which premieres in November.
