Showtime is poised to explore Bob Dylan‘s The Basement Tapes.
The premium cabler has ordered Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued, an original documentary produced by T Bone Burnett and Sam Jones and directed by the latter.
Set to air later this year, the doc will focus on Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) as they create music for two dozen recently discovered lyrics penned by Dylan in the summer of 1967 and originally intended for The Basement Tapes.

The doc will offer a look inside the creative process of recording an album and the discovery of Dylan’s long-lost lyrics. The five featured musicians will team with 13-time Grammy winner Burnett as they collaborate with a 26-year-old Dylan and record an album of the newly completed compositions at Hollywood’s famed Capitol Studios.
Showtime will premiere the doc timed to the Burnett-produced studio album on Electromagnetic Recordings/Harvest Records (Capitol Music Group). Lost Songs is a film and recording collaboration between Jones and Burnett; Carol Cohen serves as a producer on the film.
In other music-TV news, A Fine Frenzy’s Alison Sudol has boarded USA Network’s upcoming miniseries Dig. Sudol (whose acting credits include Transparent and Other People’s Children) will play Emma Wilson, an American intern working on a dig site in Jerusalem in the six-hour miniseries from Tim Kring and Gideon Raff.
