Showtime’s star-studded limited series about former Fox News head Roger Ailes has added some more wattage to its cast.
Seth MacFarlane, Sienna Miller, Simon McBurney and Annabelle Wallis have joined the eight-episode series, which focuses primarily on Ailes (Russell Crowe) in the last decade of his life, when Fox News was ascendant in the cable-news wars while he faced multiple accusations of sexual harassment and other inappropriate behavior.
The miniseries is based on Gabriel Sherman’s book about Ailes, The Loudest Voice in the Room.
In addition to Crowe, the cast also includes Naomi Watts as Gretchen Carlson, the former Fox News anchor who sued Ailes in 2016 for allegedly firing her after she turned down his sexual advances. Other claims soon followed, which led to Ailes resigning from the network.
Miller (Live by Night) will play Ailes’ wife, Beth, who raised their son Zachary and edited a small newspaper in Garrison, N.Y., while Ailes built Fox News. She was a steadfast defender of her husband until his death in 2017 and still refutes charges of wrongdoing against him. She is repped by WME.
Family Guy and The Orville creator and star MacFarlane will play Brian Lewis, the former head of public relations at Fox News and an Ailes confidant who was fired in 2013 for breach of contract. MacFarlane is repped by CAA, Jackoway Austen and manager Joy Fehily.
McBurney (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Theory of Everything) plays media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who hired Ailes to run Fox News. McBurney is repped by UTA, Circle of Confusion and Troika in the U.K.
Wallis (Tag, Peaky Blinders) will play Laurie Luhn, a one-time volunteer who became head of booking at Fox News under Ailes’ mentorship — but also became involved in an abusive relationship with him. She is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, Jackoway Austen and United Agents in the U.K.
Sherman co-wrote the first episode with Tom McCarthy (Spotlight), who is executive producing with Crowe, Jason Blum, Alex Metcalf, Blumhouse’s Marci Wiseman and Jeremy Gold and Liza Chasin.
