Night 2 of NBC’s The Sing-Off (7.6 million viewers, 2.6 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) retained most of its premiere rating, with Wednesday’s two-hour episode down only 7% from the previous night’s opener. NBC points out that its 2.6 rating represents a season high in that slot, though that’s not really much of a bragging point.
Overall NBC tied ABC for second place, with CBS taking the lead thanks to a steady Survivor (12.2 million, 3.6), Criminal Minds (14.2 million, 3.5) and The Defenders (10.5 million, 2.0).
ABC introduced its three-hour comedy block (well, the 10 p.m. hour had repeats), with modest episodes of The Middle (8.8 million, 2.5), Better With You (7.3 million, 2.2), Modern Family (11 million, 4.1) and Cougar Town (6.5 million, 2.6). Though down 15% and tying with its non-holiday-week season low, Modern Family ranked as the night’s top-rated show. And though you can’t judge ABC’s 10 p.m. comedy idea based on these repeats, they easily outperformed original episodes of The Whole Truth from recent weeks.
Fox’s Human Target (5.7 million, 1.6) failed to improve and ranked as the lowest-rated show on a major broadcaster. Hell’s Kitchen (5.3 million, 2.3) may be winding up to its finale, yet dropped 12% to a non-holiday season low.
