Freeform is coming to Disney’s first combined upfront presentation armed with some news and new footage from its upcoming originals.
On Tuesday, Disney’s younger-skewing cable network handed out a third-season renewal for mermaid drama Siren and unveiled the first footage of upcoming dramas Motherland: Fort Salem, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay and its Party of Five reboot. The Tom Ascheim-led cabler also announced that it would begin airing repeats from all 30 seasons of Disney’s newly acquired crown jewel The Simpsons come September and announced expansion plans for its holiday-themed programming.
“Freeform is built on one very powerful belief: that embracing the disruptive voices and diverse identities of our viewers is key to our ongoing success,” said Ascheim. “We are so proud to have the opportunity to grow with our audience and are looking forward to continuing to push the boundaries of convention through our programming — this year and in years to come.”
Siren’s season three renewal comes as the second half of its sophomore outing returns June 13. It ranks as Freeform’s No. 1 series among adults 18-49 and women 18-49. Eline Powell stars in the series, from showrunner Emily Whitesell.
For the holidays, Freeform will expand its Halloween programming, with Ghostbusters and its sequel joining the Scream trilogy, The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Addams Family. Network favorite Hocus Pocus will also air a record 27 broadcasts on the network. For Christmas, Freeform will feature the cable debut of animated classics Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Those will be joined by a new gift-wrapping holiday competition series, Wrap Battle.
On the trailer front, the cable network debuted the first footage of its Party of Five reboot, Josh Thomas’ Everything’s Gonna Be Okay and witch drama Motherland: Fort Salem. Watch all three below. (Premiere dates for the three series have not yet been announced.)
Freeform’s scripted slate also includes Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, The Bold Type, Grown-ish, Good Trouble, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists and Unrelated.
