The luck has run out for Fox’s Sleepy Hollow.
The genre drama has been canceled after four seasons at the network.
A year after seeing female lead Nicole Beharie exit the Friday procedural, season four averaged a 0.9 in the demo and 3.2 million total viewers — with seven days of DVR. That’s down considerably from the 20th Century Fox Television-produced drama’s third run and, even with returns from international sales, not enough to get the Tom Mison starrer to a fifth season.
Co-creator Phillip Iscove announced the news on Twitter late Tuesday, calling Sleepy Hollow an “absolute dream.” “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every actor, writer, director, producer and incredible crew on all their endless hard work. But it’s the fans that made the show truly come alive and to them I owe the biggest debt.”
The drama had been hanging on by a thread thanks to its decent international sales but in the end, even that as well as the fact that it was produced in-house wasn’t enough to save the series.
Sleepy Hollow becomes the latest cancellation at Fox, which has also axed rookie Pitch and second-year drama Rosewood.
