Sleepy Hollow will return to Fox next season. The network granted the season’s first bona fide hit an early renewal Thursday, bringing the series back for a similarly limited run next year.
Fox’s twist on the classic Washington Irving short story will run its full 13 episodes this season and, with a schedule already packed, will return next season rather than earn the typical back-nine order. The series debuted as the network’s highest-rated drama premiere in six seasons.

From Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Phillip Iscove and Len Wiseman, the one-hour series takes the character of Ichabod Crane and transports him (and the headless horseman) to contemporary Westchester County, New York, which is steeped in an occult conspiracy.
The series premiere bowed to an impressive 3.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 10.1 million viewers before jumping an equally notable 43 percent to a 5.0 rating with adults 18-49 in Live+Three Day returns. The second outing of Sleepy Hollow lost little steam, just 11 percent, despite big competition from The Voice and CBS comedy premieres.
“The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking — it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast,” Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly said. “I can’t wait for fans to experience what else is in store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into season two.”
Sleepy Hollow stars Tom Mison (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen), Nicole Beharie (Shame) and Orlando Jones. The drama is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and K/O Paper Products.
