‘SMILF’ Books Melanie Griffith, 3 Others for Season 2 Roles (Exclusive)

Showtime’s SMILF has lined up four actors, including Melanie Griffith, for its second season.

Tony nominee Sherie Rene Scott, Emmy-nominated writer and actor Claudia O’Doherty and newcomer Dan Aid will have recurring parts on the series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Griffith will guest-star as Enid, the free-spirited mother of Nelson (Samara Weaving). Married her whole adult life, Enid has embarked on a new chapter of self-exploration. She also has a codependent, micro-managing relationship with her two daughters.

The Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning Griffith’s recent credits include The Disaster Artist and a recurring role on Hawaii Five-0. She’s repped by Untitled Entertainment.

Scott, a Tony nominee for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Everyday Rapture, will recur as Jackie Bridgette’s (series creator and star Frankie Shaw) aunt and Tutu’s (Rosie O’Donnell) sister. She tries to play peacemaker between Bridgette and Tutu but usually ends up with hurt feelings herself. She is repped by Gersh.

O’Doherty will play Nelson’s cynical sister, who is simultaneously disapproving and a little jealous of Nelson’s glossy lifestyle. She earned an Emmy nomination as part of the writing staff for Inside Amy Schumer, on which she also performed; other acting credits include Trainwreck and Netflix’s Love. She is repped by UTA and Odenkirk Provissiero.

Aid will make his TV debut as Hank, a high-school classmate of Bridgette’s who is now a tattoo artist. Hank’s laid-back attitude makes him attractive to Bridgette. Aid, also the lead guitarist for the band Authority Zero, is repped by Gartner/Green.

Season two of SMILF premieres in January.
