Saturday Night Live took aim at the motion picture academy’s apparent diversity issues.
Martin Luther King Jr. (Kenan Thompson) appeared in a student’s (Pete Davidson) room to help him with his report on King’s life. The young man informed the civil rights leader that he has had a major impact on modern life, not to mention that a new movie Selma is about King’s life.

“I guess that will be nominated for a lot of Oscars, right?” King asked. The audience laughed, acknowledging that the film was snubbed for best director and best actor.
When King asked who is leading the charge for improving diversity, the student told him Macklemore. “He’s from Seattle, and he’s like the whitest dude on earth,” Davidson’s character said.

King was also dismayed when he saw that the only way people participate in civil disobedience today is by tweeting hashtags like #IAmFerguson.
Host Kevin Hart did not appear in the segment.
