The Sons of Anarchy spinoff has found its lead.
JD Pardo (Revolution, East Los High) has been tapped to star in Mayans MC, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Mayans MC is set after the events of Sons of Anarchy and centers on EZ Reyes (Pardo), a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border who struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel as well as his need for respect from the women he loves.
The actor joins a cast that includes Edward James Olmos, who will play the father of Pardo’s character, and Clayton Cardenas.
Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter will co-write the pilot with Elgin James in addition to directing.
Sutter first discussed the spinoff in an August cover story for THR, saying that the offshoot would distinguish itself from its widely popular predecessor and that “tone, pace, storytelling will be unique.” FX officially picked up the pilot in December, after Sutter’s The Bastard Executioner was quietly canceled a month prior.
Best known for his series regular role on NBC’s Revolution, Pardo’s other credits include The Messengers, American Dreams, Drive and most recently Hulu’s East Los High.
