Sony Movie Channel is getting into the streaming business.
The cable network is launching Sony Movie Channel Everywhere, offering uncut and uninterrupted theatrical releases from its movie studio’s library.
Available to DirecTV and Dish Network customers, subscribers log in using their cable account information to www.sonymoviechannel.com/smc-everywhere and stream titles from more than 3,500 Sony Pictures films.
“We continue to see a strong demand for high definition movie content and recognize that our viewers are well-connected,” Sony Movie Channel GM Superna Kalle said. “By making our high-quality catalogue of feature films available online, DirecTV and Dish Network customers can now enjoy our collection of content anytime and anywhere.”
Dish users can also access the Sony content through www.dishonline.com. Viewers must be subscribers to Sony Movie Channel, via the HD Extra Pack on DirecTV and Dish’s Blockbuster Movie Pass package.
About 20 new titles will be added monthly, similar to HBO’s online application HBO Go, with the first Sony titles set to include Night of the Living Dead, The Prince of Tides, The Razor’s Edge, The Seventh Sign and Silverado. Additional titles will come from Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Classics.
The news follows Showtime’s entry into the online space via Showtime Social, an application for iPad users that allows users to interact in real time and stream select content.
