Sony has partnered with Meredith Corporation to take the latter’s syndicated strip People (the TV Show) national.
The newsmagazine, inspired by and covering the same story as Meredith’s People magazine, premiered Sept. 14 on a dozen local stations owned by Meredith. The show has performed well in its first six weeks, ranking as the top new syndicated show of the season in the markets where it airs (which include Atlanta, Phoenix, St. Louis and Las Vegas).
Sony Pictures TV will distribute the show nationwide, adding People (the TV Show) to a syndication portfolio that also includes The Dr. Oz Show and several off-network comedies.

People has maintained the largest audience of any magazine brand in America, reaching close to 100 million consumers, and attracts blue chip advertisers at premium rates,” said John Weiser, president first run television at Sony Pictures TV. “Rather than presenting a pilot, we’re strategically taking the risk out of first run television by offering stations a show that has already been on-air tested and is delivering great ratings. We are proud to partner with Meredith broadcasting in representing this well-established, first-class brand.”
Kay Adams and Lawrence K. Jackson host People, with correspondents Jeremy Parsons and Sandra Vergara and special contributors Nancy O’Dell and Gretchen Carlson. Access Hollywood veteran Rob Silverstein executive produces. Meredith also hired Lee Villas, formerly of CBS, to oversee distribution.
