‘Stanistan’ Scribe Andy Parker Inks Overall Deal With UCP, Sets Up Two Projects

Universal Cable Productions is bringing a former collaborator back into the fold.

Andy Parker, who penned the Stanistan pilot for USA Network, has signed a multi-year overall deal with the studio that includes two new projects, it was announced Tuesday.

No details were immediately provided about the projects, except that one will be for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and another is headed for an outside network. The news comes a week after NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment underwent a massive reorganization that subsequently puts all scripted development for USA, Syfy, Bravo and E! under Bill McGoldrick.

“Andy is one of the most talented writers in the business and we’re delighted to have him join the UCP family,” Dawn Olmstead, UCP evp development, said in a statement. “His provocative and memorable characters and storylines resonate with viewers because they touch on the common struggle of finding one’s place in the world.”

The new pact shows a sign of confidence in Parker, whose Jennifer Carpenter drama Stanistan was passed over in 2015. The project was based on a format written by Mary Louise Vitelli and M. Richard Scarth. Parker’s other credits include the dark family drama The Disgraces, which he developed for HBO.

“I’m thrilled to have found a home at UCP,” Parker said. “From day one, I’ve been impressed by their willingness to nurture and champion emerging voices.”

Parker is represented by the Gersh Agency, Melinda Jason and Lichter, Grossman.
