Commander Riker (Jonathan Frakes) is ready to sit in the big chair.
Riker spent seven seasons — and four films — as Captain Picard’s (Patrick Stewart) No. 1. Now he’s getting his own spinoff thanks to a fan-made edit. The super-short pilot was created by Jan van den Hemel, who years ago used to edit together humorous Star Trek: The Next Generation clips.
It plays off of Riker’s amorous reputation (he always seemed to be taking shore leave to the pleasure planet Risa and flirting with ladies like his last name was Kirk). In the pilot, he’s apparently impregnated an alien, and his on-again, off-again girlfriend, Counselor Troi (Marina Sirtis), isn’t exactly happy.
Frakes himself responded to the material, tweeting a three-letter review: “OMG.”
