The late-night host previously addressed the sexual misconduct allegations against Moonves published in a Ronan Farrow piece for The New Yorker on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on the Monday after the piece was published. “I believe in accountability. Everybody believes in accountability until it’s their guy, and make no mistake: Les Moonves is my guy,” Colbert said on his show in response to the allegations.
“As soon as I heard that the article came out, I knew that I’d have to talk about it on Monday night because we talk about everything, so this is the thing to talk about,” Colbert told Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen. “That’s kind of all I worked on that Monday was what I wanted to say, and about a half an hour before we taped we told CBS. We said, ‘We’re gonna do this.'”
“And there was no pushback,” he concluded. “Nobody said a damn thing.”
Colbert also addressed his decision to bring former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer onstage during his stint as host at the 2017 Emmy Awards. The appearance received backlash from many of the award show’s viewers. After being asked if he regretted the decision, he responded, “Not at all. I had no fear that it would redeem him.
“I knew that there would be some people who wouldn’t like it,” said Colbert. “The funny thing was that right before I brought him out, I looked around the room and I thought to myself, ‘There’s not one joke I’ve told tonight to this room full of liberals that was a risk other than the one I’m about to do.'”
He added, “It was the joke I most wanted to do.”
Colbert and Cohen then played a late-night host edition of “Never Have I Ever.” The questions included if they have ever asked guests questions they regret, if they have ever hooked up with anyone in their dressing rooms and if they have ever hid in the bathroom to avoid greeting a guest.
